Ornamental fish farming is considered the world’s oldest and second most popular hobby next to photography. Keeping the significance in mind, a Three-Day Workshop and Hands-on-Training on Ornamental Fish Farming, Construction, and Management of Aquarium was organized by the Department of Zoology, Mangaldai College in collaboration with IQAC, Mangaldai College from 08/11/2023 to 10/11/2023. Dr. Minati Sharma, HOD, Department of Zoology delivered the welcome speech in the inaugural session giving a particular emphasis on the prospect of aquarium construction in the world of entrepreneurship. Dr. Kamala Kanta Borah, Principal, Mangaldai College graced the occasion as chief guest and appreciated the holistic approach and relentless efforts taken by the faculties of the Department of Zoology, Mangaldai College. Dr. Pranab Kumar Sarma, former HOD and retired Associate Professor of the Department of Zoology, Mangaldai College highlighted the statistics of the species diversity and motivated the students to stand and excel in the competitive examination citing the examples of brilliant alumni of the Department of Zoology, Mangaldai College in his lecture. BorunKathar, HOD, Department of Zoology, PDUAM, Dalgaon was the resource person of the workshop. Mr. Kathar drew the attention of the students with his fascinating talk covering the history, benefits, and significance of ornamental fish farming. Moreover, Mr. Kathar urged everyone to have an inquisitive mind and develop a scientific spirit to overcome failures. The students were provided theoretical knowledge on the first day and hands-on training on the second and third days of the workshop. Students showed great enthusiasm in performing group tasks and made nine aquariums with the guidance of Mr. Kathar, resource person and support provided by Bikash Rabha, Assistant Professor, Department of Zoology and Krishna Das,Assistant Professor, Department of Zoology.
