Sericulture is an integral part of livelihood in North-East India specially in Assam and it has been in practice since time immemorial. This industry has been contributing to the global economy and has strengthened the entrepreneurship industry. Sericulture is an agro-based industry that involves the scientific method of cultivation of host or food plants of silkworm, rearing and cocoon production, reeling and spinning of cocoons to procure silk for processing and weaving. The course will allow the students to get an in-depth knowledge about the different types of silkworms, life cycle, diseases and prevention, and host plants. Moreover, the course will enable students to get hands on training, internship and fieldtrip. Overall this course will open avenues for different careers like obtaining higher courses in sericulture, job related to sericulture and start-ups.
