Vision :
To make the department as a centre for potential of excellence in all aspects of education, research and development in chemical sciences with multi-disciplinary approach.
Mission :

  1. To provide learner-centric excellent undergraduate Chemistry Teaching that produces skilled students for successful careers with social sensitivity.
  2. To promote the culture of research amongst students and faculty with mutli-disciplinary approach.
  3. To create department (academia)-industry linkage to enhance employability.

Introduction :
The Department of Chemistry, Mangaldai College, Assam, was established in 1966 starting Pre-University (PU) course from 1967-68 session. It was brought under Deficit-Grant-in-Aid w.e.f. December, 1972 (vide Govt. letter no. G(A)AC/15/69/250, dt. 24-12-1975). B.Sc. Chemistry(General) course was started from 1972 and subsequently B.Sc. Chemistry(Major) course was introduced from 1978 under the affiliating Gauhati University. The faculty members are devoted in teaching. They are also engaged in research activities without disturbing regular teaching. The teachers, non-teaching staff and the students regularly participate in other activities like plantation, sacchwata abhiyan and sports. The department also organizes some curriculum enrichment programme to assist the learners in addition to regular classes. The alumni of the department are engaged in various posts like University and College teachers, School Teachers, ONGC officials, Scientists, Bank Officials, Laboratory technicians etc.    
The Curriculum :
The Department follows the curriculum and syllabus provided by the affiliating Gauhati University in offering B.Sc. (Honours and Regular Course) on semester basis. 

Four Year Under Graduate Programme(FYUGP) will be started from 2023-24 session as per GU guidelines
1. The present HoD is one of the member in the UG-CCS in Chemistry of the University.
2.Curriculum delivery and completion of the syllabus in time are ensured by maintaining the documents in the form of Teaching Plan, Daily Class Diary and Monthly Progress Report along with optimum utilisation of the class routine, discussion in Departmental Academic Committee (DAC) and interaction with students.


The Internal Evaluation :
1.The Department conducts Continuous Internal Evaluation(CIE) in the form of Sessional Examination, Project Work and Home Assignment as per guidelines. 
2.Performance of the students are analysed and discussed in DAC followed by interaction with parents/students.
3.For those who could not appear in the sessional examination due to some reasons or failed, department conducts special examination for them well before the final examination.

Library Details :

Maximum number of Chemistry books are kept in the Central Library from where the Hons/HG/RC/RE students avail them. However, the department has a small library with limited number of books. The stock of books, e-resources and journals as follows :
                                 Number of books      : 214        Central Library book stocks = 1485
                                 Number of e-books   : 50
                                 Number of journals   : 77

 

Laboratory Details :


The department has four well-equiped wet laboratories (one Research laboratory, one Honours laboratory and two big laboratories for Honours/HG/RC students). In addition, one Instrument Facility (IF), two well secured stores and one De-ionized water plant are also in place. Department plans to have one dry laboratory at the top floor. The overall summery of laboratory positions is as follows :
1. Wet Research laboratory = 01 (small)
2. Wet Honours laboratory = 01 (small)
3. Wet Honours/HG/RC laboratory = 02 (big)
4. IF = 01
5. Stores = 02
6. De-ionized water plant = 01
7. Proposed dry laboratory = 01 (Computer lab)
 

The Department has one big smart classroom (sitting capacity of more than 150) with interactive board having uninterrupted internet connection. In addition, the whole campus of the department is Wi-Fi enabled.
