Botany as a subject was introduced in the year 1969 for Pre University classes as Department of Biology under the Headship of Late Surendra Nath Deka. From 1970-71 Botany was introduced in degree classes. It was only in 1989, the department started major courses in degree classes. At present, the department is supported by the Star College Scheme under DBT (Department of Biotechnology), Govt. of India. Teachers of this department are also engaged in research front. Apart from these the department is practicing towards conservation of plant diversity in the college campus.
Library Details :Besides the Central Library, the Department has been maintaining a Departmental Library having more than two hundred valuable books along with few important journals.
Laboratory Details :The Department has three well equipped to degree level laboratory having some important instruments such as Binocular Microscope, Inverted Microscope, Autoclave, Incubator, Kjeldahl apparatus, Hot air oven,
