Assamese Department

The Department of Assamese, Mangaldai College began its career way back in the early days of the establishment of the college in 1951. Since then it has shown exemplary performance both in teaching and other activities of the department and the college. The Department introduced Honors classes in 1965 and Post-Graduate classes in 1995, which gave the department further scope for academic improvement. Late Professor Bhabananda Rajkhowa was the first teacher in the department and he was followed by H.K. Baishya, Dr. Usha Borah, Dr. Mahendra Prasad Baruah, Sri Jiban Chandra Sarma, Ms. Naharun Nesha and MD. Idris Ali were the permanent Selection Grade Lecturer. They rendered their service for the department and the students with devotion. We are proud of them. At present the teaching faculty of the Department is consisted of 10 members. The present faculty has various academic backgrounds giving the Department a collective spirit and motivation for teaching-learning and other activities. 

Staff:

The present faculty members are Mr. Dimbeswar Baruah, Dr. Barnali Kalita, Dr. Rupjyoti Baruah, Dr. Sarajupriya Devi, Ms. Dipti Das, 
Mr. Chitraranjan Nath, Ms. Pikumoni Goswami, Ms. Manjula Kalita Dr. Bijoy Kumar Sharma(guest faculty) and Ms.Mousumi Kansa Banik (guest faculty). 

There are 3 nos. of non-teaching staff in the Department. They are Sri. Bhadra Kanta Sarma,
Sri. Santana Kumar Baruah and Sri. Depen Deka.The Department is located in the main college campus with a separate building with one faculty common room, one library cum non teaching staff room and six independent class rooms.As an affiliated college of the Guwahati University, the Department follows the Guwahati University syllabus both in UG and PG programs. The intact capacity of UG Honors class are 80 nos. and in PG are 40 nos. and for General Course are 400 nos. 

Apart from teaching-learning and other academic activities, the Department has already published a book with ISBN. namely ""Sankardevor Harichandra Upakhyan"" and it has been conducting a Best Practice ""Axomiya Bhasha Aru Sahitya-Sanskritir Sarcha Aru Prachar"". The Department also has a wall magazine namely ""Kuhipat"" and has been publishing the creative writings of the students and teachers.
