Keeping the importance of cleanliness in education, a Cleanliness Drive was organised by the Department of Zoology in collaboration with college students’ union, NSS and NCC of Mangaldai college on 03/02/2022 from 10 am. The drive was conducted under the guidance of Dr. Minati Sarma, HOD of the Department of Zoology. The number of participants was 23. The drive was successful with the encouraging participation of all the faculty members and the students.

A One Week Faunal Diversity Survey Programme was organized by the Department of Zoology, Mangaldai College from 06.07.2022 to 12.07.2022. A variety of fauna present in the campus were observed under the guidance of Bikash Rabha, Asst. Professor, Department of Zoology. The survey includes 33 species of arthropoda, 6 species of amphibia, two species of reptilia, 29 species of aves, 2 species of wild mammals. A total of 48 students were benefitted from the programme. Dr. Minati Sarma, HOD of the Zoology Department appreciated Bikash Rabha for his efforts.

National Science Day was celebrated by the Department of Zoology, Mangaldai College on 28.02.2022 at the Department of Zoology. The occasion was graced by Dr. Manimugdha Barthakur, Principal-in-charge, Mangaldai College, Dr. Buddhin Ch. Hazarika, Retd. Principal & former Associate Professor of the Department of Zoology, Dr. Pranab Kumar Sarma, retired HOD of the department of zoology, Mangaldai college. A poster presentation competition along with the prize distribution ceremony was held. The event was successful with the participation of students of Zoology, Physics and Maths department along with the faculty members with the number of 53.

Celebration of World Rhino Day:
World Rhino Day has been organized by the Department of Zoology, Mangaldai College on 22/09/2023. Dr. Minati Sharma, HOD, Dept of Zoology introduced the resource person Dr. Buddhin Ch. Hazarika, Retd. Principal, Kharupetiya College. A total of 75 students took part in an interactive session with the resource person and grabbed the chance to learn about the biology, habitat, and behaviour of rhinos, as well as the importance of rhino conservation. Dr. Seema Jyoti, Associate Professor, Department of Zoology, Mangaldai College summarised the talk by admiring the depth of knowledge of the resource person.

An invited talk on Continental Drift was organised on 28-09-2023 by the Department of Zoology, Mangaldai College as a part of the interdepartmental faculty exchange programme at Department of Zoology, Mangaldai College. Resource person Deepa Pradhan, Assistant Professor, Dept. of Geography, Mangaldai College delivered a talk on Continental drift theory emphasising on the geological time scale, formation of sea, plate tectonic theory etc. which greatly benefited the students. A total no. of 58 students participated in the programme.

A Symposium on The Critically Endangered Indian Vulture, its Conservation and Management was organized by the Department of Zoology, Mangaldai College in collaboration with Bombay Natural History Society, India and IQAC, Mangaldai College at Science Gallery on 27-02-2023. The resource person, Mrunmay Pravin Desai, Conservation Biologist, BNHS, gave an eye-opening presentation focusing on the introduction, habitat, potential threat and conservation strategies of vulture. Desai also conducted one quiz and awarded gift hampers to the winners. The winners were Sahnaz Yasmin, Sweat Baruah, and Uddipta Priyam Saharia from the Department of Zoology, Mangaldai College. The event was successful with the active participation of 48 students and faculty members.

Late Bidyut Prava Das Memorial Speech and Award Ceremony was organized by the Department of Zoology in collaboration with Mangaldai College Teacher’s Unit, Mangaldai College on 26/05/2023 from 11 am at Science Gallery. The invited speaker, Dr. Anjan Jyoti Choudhury, a renowned physician based on Guwahati delivered a lecture on the topic “Jiwan Jukhiba Hahire’’. The highest scored student of the Department of Zoology, Seema Devi was conferred the award which was donated by Dr. Barnali Das, daughter of Late Bidyut Prava Das. The soulful singing and the humorous life experiences by Dr. Choudhury were thoroughly enjoyed by 69 students and 51 faculty members. Moreover, Murchana Bezbaruah, a 5th Semester student (RE) pleased the audience with her melodious song.

On the 7th of May, 2024, the Department of Zoology, Mangaldai College, orchestrated a remarkable field trip for the students of 6th (RE and Hons) to delve into the intricacies of fish farming and explore the wonders of a man-made forest. The excursion aimed to broaden students understanding of fishery techniques and foster appreciation for photography and ecological conservation efforts.

Experiential Learning
The World Sparrow Day was organized by the Department of Zoology at Mangaldai College on 20.03.2024 with the aim of fostering awareness and a sense of connection towards sparrow. The event took place in the ICT classroom, led by Dr. Minati Sharma, the Head of the Department. Dr. Sharma highlighted on the significance of the Sparrow Day and different ways to conserve sparrow. Activities included a documentary screening showcasing sparrow nests and their habitats. Additionally, students shared their personal experiences and stories about birds. Under the guidance of faculty members, sparrow nests were placed in the trees around the Department. A total of 31 students actively participated in the event.

The Parent-Teacher Meeting (PTM) for the Department of Zoology was held on May 10, 2024, with the aim of fostering better communication between parents and faculty members regarding the academic progress, challenges, and overall development of students. The PTM saw a significant turnout, with both parents and teachers actively participating in discussions.
