35th All Assam Swahid Memorial Inter College Debating Competition

The 35th All Assam Swahid Memorial Inter College Debating Competition was successfully organized by Mangaldai College (Autonomous) on 17th October, 2025, with great enthusiasm and participation from colleges across the state. The topic for this year’s debate was “The Autonomy of Higher Educational Institutions is Instrumental in Enhancing the Quality of Higher Education.”
The programme started with a welcome note delivered by Dr. Kamala Kanta Borah, Principal, Mangaldai College, who highlighted the importance of debate in developing critical thinking and democratic values among students. The event was graced by Mr. Ramani Kanta Saharia, President of the Governing Body and Dr. Santosh Borkakati, IQAC Coordinator, Mangaldai College, along with the faculty members and students. The debate competition was chaired by Mr. Paresh Kr. Sarma, Retired Associate Professor of Eonomics, Mangaldai College, as the Speaker. A panel of distinguished judges Dr. Dhiren Deka, Mangaldai Commerce College, Dr. Jintu Gohain, Paschim Guwahati Mahavidyalaya, and Dr. Barnali Deka, Mangaldai College, evaluated the participants.
Participants from various colleges across Assam have participated in the competition. After significantly stimulating session, J.B. Law College, Guwahati has earned the Best Team, while Gauhati University and Dr. B.K.B. College, Nagaon secured the second and third positions respectively. Agastya Kashyap from J. B. Law College, Guwahati, was adjudged the Best Debater of the competition. The winners are felicitated with trophies, certificates, and cash awards in recognition of their commendable performances. The programme concluded with the vote of thanks by Mr. Manash Pratim Baruah, Teacher-in-Charge of the Debate and Talk Section, for successful completion of the event.

International Forest Day

Celebration of International Day of Forest, 2025 International Day of Forests 2025 is being observed today, March 21, to promote awareness about the vital role of forests and encourage sustainable conservation efforts. Established by the United Nations General Assembly in 2012, this global event emphasizes the significance of forests in maintaining ecological balance. The theme for this year, "Forests and Food," highlights the crucial connection between forests, food security, and livelihoods. To mark the occasion, the Department of Geography at Mangaldai College organized a "Campus Exploration Activity." Students from the 6th Semester (Major) actively participated, exploring the diverse forest resources within the college premises. This hands-on initiative allowed students to gain insights into the rich biodiversity present on campus. Notably, Mangaldai College boasts an impressive green cover, with more than 50% of its campus enveloped in lush vegetation. This event not only fostered environmental awareness but also reinforced the importance of preserving and nurturing green spaces for future generations.

On 25th March, 2025 International Day of Forests, 2025 has been observed by Department of Botany, Mangaldai College in the Micro forest Area in the college campus. The meeting proceeded with an introduction session where the alumni members also shared some nostalgic moments in the department from their past. A new committee was formed in the meeting and a discussion was held for conducting an extension activity in collaboration with Alumni Association in the near future. Field Survey under Farm Management

Department of Economics, Mangaldai College organised a field survey for partial fulfilment of 2nd semester SEC course “Farm Management” on 10th May, 2024. The field survey was conducted in four different locations of the Darrang district which include Tongani Tea Estate, Balugaon Vegetable Market, Orang National Park and Kopati Village agricultural field. The survey which was conducted by around 80 students, started with the visit to Tongani Tea Estate where students collected information on different socio-economic parameters like employment, annual production, sell and export, ratio of male-female workers etc. Students also witnessed the tea manufacturing process in the tea eatate. After that, students went to the Balugaon vegetable market and investigated the prices of different vegetables from the street vendors. Students also visited Orang National Park and enquired about eco-tourism opportunities in the area. At the end of the survey, students went to the agricultural fields of Kopati village where they learned lots of ground level information regarding cultivation and harvesting process of rice, maize and taro. The survey was conducted under the supervision of faculties of the Department of Economics, Mangaldai College.

Orientation Program on Indian Knowledge System (IKS)

An Orientation Program on Indian Knowledge System (IKS) was organized by IQAC, Mangaldai College on 13th December, 2023 at Science Gallery from 10 am. The inaugural speech was delivered by Dr. Kamala Kanta Borah, Principal, Mangaldai College highlighting the significance of traditional knowledge and the abundance of scope for research in this field for the welfare of society. Dr. Borah also urged the gathering to aware the mass including the students about the rich knowledge of India. The Resource Person of the program was Dr. Meghna Choudhury, Assistant Professor, Department of Folklore Studies, Gauhati University. Dr. Choudhury started her lecture with an appreciation note for the beautiful College campus. The Technical Session-I was about a brief overview of IKS where she introduced the audience to the intriguing components and pillars of IKS. The 2nd technical session was on Pedagogy to IKS where the gathering was fascinated to listen to the art of Storytelling in the context of IKS and implementation of IKS in teaching-learning process. A lot of stories from Panchatantra, videos and interactive games made the talk fun and engaging. The queries were nicely addressed by the resource person. The certificates were distributed among the faculty members at the end of the Program. The Vote of Thanks was offered by Dr. Santosh Borkakati, Coordinator, IQAC, Mangaldai College. Overall, 50 participants were highly benefitted and enjoyed the program.

She has trained more than 60 High School Teachers of Darrang District who have participated in the training. The training emphasises on the less use of plastic and other non biodegradable products, environmentally hazardous chemicals, reuse and recycling of the biodegradable wastes, importance of organic farming and skill development of students at school level.

Field trip to the University of Science and Technology, Meghalaya (USTM)

A field trip was organised by the Department of Education, Mangaldai College on the 30th November 2023 to visit the University of Science and Technology, Meghalaya (USTM) . The fifth semester students of Honours Course, Department of Education, Mangaldai College were participated in the field trip. The students were accompanied by the four numbers of Teacher Guides accordingly Dr. Usha Rani Deka, HOD, Education, Ankan Saharia , Jyotipriya Saikia and Lopamudra Deka. Honourable Chancellor of the University of Science and Technology, Meghalaya made warm falicitation to all the Teacher Guides and wellcomed the students to their institution. Honourable Chancellor of the USTM were also made interaction with our students. On that day, a Student Exchange Programme was also conducted between the Department of Education, Mangaldai College and School of Education, University of Science and Technology, Meghalaya. Dr. Gayatri Goswami, respected Dean, school of education, University of Science and Technology, Meghalaya addressed the students and delivered a talk in respect of duties and responsibilities of the students towards their institution, towards their parents as well as towards their respective society. Dr. Usha Rani Deka, HOD, Education, Mangaldai College was also deliver a short speech in the Programme and offered sincere thanks and gratitude to the University of Science and Technology, Meghalaya for giving the opportunity to conduct such type activity with the students. All the Teachers and the students were highly satisfied and benefited by the field trip along with the student exchange programme. The number of participants were 48 in the field trip (only 5th semester students of Education Department, Mangaldai College) and in the student exchange programme number of participants were 72 (including students of both from USTM and Mangaldai College.

The cadets of 73 Assam Girls (I) Coy NCC, Tezpur, Mangaldai College, celebrates NCC Day every year on the fourth Sunday of November by visiting Orphanage and spending quality time with the children residing there. They distribute sweets, fruits and various items among the children. The cadets also play games and arrange cultural activities with the children. To celebrate the NCC Day-2023, the cadets visited the orphanage Kasturi Shishu Griha located at Mangaldai on 26th November 2023 . 35 cadets took part in the celebration.

The Program was started at 10.00 a.m. with lightening the inaugural lamp and the inaugural and welcome speech by Dr. Kamala Kanta Borah, the Principal, Mangaldai College, Mangaldai. The workshop was divided into two sessions for two themes viz. (i) the preparation and Illustration of the manuscripts and (ii) the Conservation of the manuscripts. The Workshop was conducted by Dr. Angiras, HoD, History. Resource Person Dr. Dhrubajyoti Hati Baruah, talked on the conservation of the manuscripts in addition to the role played by the DHAS in historical research in Assam in pre-independence and post independence period. Another Resource Person, Mridu Moucham Borah demonstrated lot of photographs to describe the method of preparing folios from Sanchi wood, traditional ink and other writing materials. The workshop was attended and participated by some faculty members from other Departments of the college and students of the Department of History and other Departments. The students participated with active involvement and interaction with resource parsons. A MoU was signed between the DHAS and Mangaldai College for furtherance of intellectual exchange in the concerned areas later on in between the two institutions. Dr. Dhrubajyoti Hati Baruah and Mr. Mridu Moucham Borah had expressed their happiness to find the participants with great enthusiasm and consented to organize such program on more wider and intense learning in the subject later on. Thus the program ended successfully.

CAPACITY BUILDING PROGRAMME ON PERSONALITY DEVELOPMENT

Attaining competency in English as a global language has become the urgent need of the hour and hence a Capacity Building Programme on Personality Development was conducted by the Students’ Support and Progression Cell, IQAC, Mangaldai College on 13th of June, 2023 for the immediate benefit of the students. The Resource Person, Ms. Neha Mahanta, Assistant Professor, Department of English, and Mr Suhail Mohammed, Assistant Professor, Department of English took one session each on the 13th of June, 2023. They made the sessions interactive by using PowerPoint presentations. Around 150 students from the Science stream were present in the program.

Training on Nursery

A One day Training programme on Nursery building at home was organised for the college students on 12th June 2023 by Coaching and Training Cell, Mangaldai College. The Programme was inaugurated by Principal, Dr. Kamala Kanta Borah at Science Gallery at 10.30 AM .The Programme Coordinator Ms. Rupa Rani Bhuyan highlighted the objectives of the said Hands-On training programme by mentioning that Nursery training for needy student can help them economically. She also mentioned that Mangaldai College has a sizable number of BPL and deprived students who can get involved in Nursery business without compromising with their classes and study. The cell aims to support them for their improvement with a holistic approach. The Coaching and Training Cell also ensured that the products from the nurseries of the students will be collected by big nurseries from their campuses. The Resource person for the training was Mr. Hiranya Kumar Nath who is a master trainer, NSDC & ASCI and is an entrepreneur having a renowned nursery FLORICA, Assam.

Renowned Industrialist Mr. Anupam Deka, Director, SRD Group of Industries was the resource person of the event. In his speech, Mr. Deka motivated the students to be self-reliant and urged them to develop a creative and innovative thinking. He also provided counselling to the students to develop a positive attitude and build self-confidence. Around 200 students from B.A, B.Sc and B.Voc have actively participated in the session and interacted enthusiastically with the resource person. A Plantation Drive and drawing competition was organised by IQAC, Mangaldai College at the adopted Tangni Tea Garden Model School on 5th June 2023 on the occasion of World Environment Day. The day commenced with students and faculty members coming together to plant a variety of saplings, fostering a sense of environmental consciousness among participants. This dual event not only contributed to the expansion of our school green footprint but also inspired a deeper connection with nature and a commitment to safeguarding the environment for future generations. Awareness Talk on “Sensitisation for Sustainable Development”

An MOU was signed between Mangaldai College and the United Nations Resource Centre - NE Region (UNRC-NER) and SDG Program on 22nd May 2023 at the Science Gallery of Mangaldai College from 1 pm onwards. Dr. Aswini Sarma, Executive Director, UNRC-NER and Ms Nina Jain were the eminent dignitaries at the event. The MOU is for providing scope for the upliftment of the college in every sector, including education, science, culture, and environment. Dr. Sarma highlighted the purpose of the MOU and also mentioned the provision of being recognized as a Centre of Excellence to get various facilities provided by UNESCO. On this occasion a talk on “Sensitisation for Sustainable Development” was also delivered by Dr. Aswini Sarma and Ms Nina Jain. Dr. Sarma explained about the operations and activities of UNRC-NER and its role in participation in UN or UNESCO conferences at the State, National, and International levels along with the visits of UN or UNESCO officials to the College. Ms. Jain mentioned about the conduction of various healthy competitions among students on different significant themes relating to the environment. She interacted urged the students to come forward and participate in various competitions. The faculties of Mangaldai College attended the event.

Awareness Camp on Heath and Hazards in the Tea Industry

An Awareness camp was organized at the Tangani Tea Estate Model School by the Department of Zoology in collaboration with Assam Science Society, Mangaldai Branch on the occasion of International Tea Day on 21.05.2023. The invited resource person was Dr. Budhin Chandra Hazarika, Retired Principal of Kharupetia College. Dr. Minati Sharma, HOD, Department of Zoology, Dr. Seema Jyoti, Associate Professor, Department of Zoology and Secretary, Assam Science Society, Mangaldai Branch graced the occasion and aware the participants concerning health and hygiene. Sweta Baruah and Shanaz Yasmin, B.Sc. 6th semester (HC) students completed their dissertation work and elaborated their finding among the participants. The local people namely, Mamoni Majhi, Himasri Roy, KrishnaPriya Kalita, Atmaram Nag, Upanshu Talukdar performed songs and dances. Masks were distributed among the participants with the help of Pranab Hazarika, Laboratory bearer, Department of Zoology, Mangaldai College. Reduce , Reuse and Recycle Centre at Mangaldai college

“Meri LIFE, Mera Swachh Shehar” a national campaign by Ministry of Housing and Urban Affairs ( MoHUA) was launched from 15th May to 5th June 2023. Under this programme an instruction was given to the Chairperson of all urban bodies for setting up a Reduce, Reuse and Recycle Centre in every ward of urban cities. Accordingly a Reduce, Reuse and Recycle Centre was set up in Mangaldai College Campus by Mangaldai Municipality Board , Mangaldai , Darrang , Assam. The main aim of the centre was to educate the community about the importance of reducing, reusing and recycling and to provide resources for proper waste disposal and recycling. It also offers facilities for reusing and refurbishing. The centre plays a vital role in promoting a sustainable and eco-friendly lifestyle. The Mangaldai College has successfully run the RRR Centre from 15th May to 5th June 2023. The National Service Scheme Unit and National Cadet Crops (Girls) Unit of Mangaldai College were involved actively in running the centre. The timing of the centre was 9 AM to 2.30 PM in all the working days. All the stakeholders of Mangaldai college and people from nearby areas had contributed lots towards the RRR Centre. There were very good responses from the college fraternity as well as people from the surrounding areas. All total there were 13 (Thirteen) faculty members and 2 (Two) students who have deposited various items to the RRR Centre. The faculty members have deposited 250 cloths, 14 Books, 09 shoes and 01 bag. Students have deposited 08 cloths and 18 books. The centre also offers facilities for reusing. Students, employees of the college and people from surrounding areas have availed the facilities of reusing in large extent .There were 13 persons who have taken cloths, books and other items from the centre for reuse. The centre was closed on 5th June 2023. All the collected items were handed over to the Chairperson of Mangaldai Municipality Board ,Mangaldai , Darrang on 07-06-20

Plantation and Cleanliness Drive on World Earth Day, 2023

On the occasion of World Earth Day on 21st April 2023, Mangaldai College NCC have organised a plantation drive on the bank of Mangaldai River under the scheme of Puneet Sagar Abhiyan. Maj Hariman Deka, ANO and Smt. Nirmali Sharma, Chairman of Mangaldai Municipal Board inaugurated the programme by planting saplings and delivering their speech. The event not only aimed to enhance the green cover along the riverbank but also underscored the importance of environmental conservation. With enthusiasm and dedication, NCC cadets planted a variety of native trees, contributing to the beautification of the area and the promotion of biodiversity. This eco-friendly endeavour by the NCC not only celebrated World Earth Day but also instilled a sense of environmental responsibility and sustainable living practices among the cadets and the community. After the plantation drive the cadets also dedicated themselves in cleaning the river bank. 30 cadets actively participated in the activity.

Industrial visit to SRD Group of Industries, Mangaldai

On 08/04/2023(Saturday), an industrial visit to SRD Group of Industries, Mangaldai was done from Department of Botany, Mangaldai College, Mangaldai with 2 faculties and 13 students of B.Sc 6th semester (Honours). Faculty members were Dr. Rajreepa Talukdar and Rahul Malakar of the department. This visit was made according to the paper BOT-HE-6016(Industrial and Environmental Microbiology) of Botany (Honours) syllabus, Gauhati University. The main purpose of this visit was to introduce industrial fermenter and other downstream processing operations. Dr. Khomdram Nripen Singh, General Manager, Trinity Fructa Pvt. Ltd (Under SRD Group of Industries) gave a lecture on the production and processing of food products in their industries. After that students visited different food production units in the campus of the industrial area.

STUDENT CAPACITY BUILDING WORKSHOP

Mangaldai College has taken an initiative towards the betterment of the student by organising a Student Capacity Development Workshop. This programme is the first one in the series of the programmes that are to be conducted in near future. For the purpose of Capacity Building a very relevant topic of “Artificial Intelligence for future workforce” is considered. In this initiative the Intel Digital Readiness group has given their significant contribution. The students had to register themselves in the Google form link provided in the brochure prior to the programme. The programme was conducted on 30th March, 2023 at Science Gallery of Mangaldai College. The Principal of Mangaldai College, Dr Kamala Kanta Borah started the programme with a welcome address. The workshop was 7 hours long with some theoretical knowledge and hands- on training facilitated by the Industry Expert Team (Mukut Sarma, Kaushik Kashyap Borah, Arihant Chindaliya, Karanbir) of Intel Digital Readiness group. A total of 270 students from science stream of Mangaldai College attended and benefitted from the programme. The session was very interactive and brainstorming for the participants. Each participant was provided certificates. The feedback given by the students were encouraging for the organisers.

Inaugurating the event, Principal Dr Kamala Kanta Borah elaborated the biodiversity richness of the college campus and the importance of preparing a scientific record. Dr Santosh Borkakati, Coordinator, IQAC, mentioned that a Biodiversity Register Committee is formed with the faculty members from the Departments of Geography, Botany and Zoology with the mandate to prepare a scientific database of the biodiversity of the campus and maintain the database updated with time. Explaining the methodology to be followed in the survey, Dr Pranjit Kr Sarma, Convener of the Biodiversity Register Committee, showed that the 33 acres campus of the college is divided into 62 virtual Grids and demonstrated to the faculties and participating students how the data from each Grid will be mapped into the database.

A Symposium was organized by the Department of Zoology on ‘The Critically Endangered Indian Vulture, its Conservation and management’ on 27th February 2023. Dr. Kamala Kanta Borah, Principal, Mangaldai College has inaugurated the event highlighting the significance of vultures saying that they are considered natural sweepers. The resource person was Mrunmay Pravin Desai, Conservation Biologist, Bombay Natural History Society. Mr. Desai delivered his lecture in a detailed and interesting way focusing on the types of vultures and their conservation with the help of videos. Moreover, a quiz was held among the students and prizes were distributed. The event was successful with the active participation of 72 students and all the faculties of the college.

Prof. Sanjay Kumar Singh, Professor, Dept. of Library and Information Science and Dr. Pradip Kr. Bhattacharyya, Principal, Arya Vidyapeeth College were the resource persons for the programme. A survey was conducted by the Department of Economics, Mangaldai College in January, 2023 to know status of socio-economic aspects of people living in Kuiyapani village, Pachim Mangaldai Bolck, Mangaldai, Darrang, Assam. The survey was done by the third semester students of Economics Department as a part of partial fulfilment of Skill Enhancement Course, namely, ‘Data Collection and Presentation’. During the 1st week of January, 2023, Students visited different households of the village and collected data under the guidance and supervision of Dr Santosh Borkakati, HoD, Economics, Mangaldai College and Umesh Ch. A 16 day campaign on ending gender based violence against women and girls was organized by District Welfare Department, Darrang District. A rally was held on 12/12/2022 from 11.00 am to 1.00 PM. 30 NSS volunteers from Mangaldai College participated in the rally. The rally commenced from DC office, Darrang to District Social Welfare office, Darrang. The main aim of the programme was to make the people aware about the violence committed against women and girls in the society.

TRAINING PROGRAMME ON UNDERSTANDING AAA AND PREPARATION FOR NAAC

A training programme on understanding AAA and preparation for NAAC was organised by IQAC, Mangaldai Collegeon 26th November 2022 at the Conference Hall, Mangaldai College. The meeting was presided by honourable Principal, Dr Kamala Kanta Borah. He delivered a brief welcome note and started the meeting at 12.30 pm. It was followed by the lecture delivered by Dr. Santosh Borkakati, Coordinator IQAC. He had explained on Academic Audit and documentation of the departments and its role in NAAC assessment. All total 3 quintal good quality Potato seeds were distributed among the villagers. 30 student volunteers were participated in the programme. Sensowa spoke on different taboo prevailing over the society with reference to patriarchal society and its demerits. She urged the gathering to raise their voice for their rights. Dr. (Major) Leena Saikia launched her book “Ekuri Eta Kahini aruSadhukotha” in this programme. The active participation of 32 faculties and 152 students made the event successful.

Under the project “Capacity Building in IECT Including Training in Digital Skillsets and Current Industry Demanding Technologies for Various Sections of Society in the NE States” by Ministry of Electronics and Information Technology (MeitY), Government of India, two programs were held simultaneously on 13th October and 14th October 2022 from 10 am to 2 pm at the College premises. This program was organised by IQAC, Mangaldai College & National Institute of Electronics & Information Technology (NIELIT), Guwahati. The one day awareness program “Cyber security & Emerging Technologies” for students was held on 13th October 2022 at Science Gallery and Library Extension Room. The awareness program for women on “Mobile Applications for Digital Payment, e-Governance Services, IT Applications & Cyber Security” was held on 13th October and 14th October 2022 at BioTech Hub of the college. The program was inaugurated with a welcome speech delivered by Dr. Santosh Borkakati, Coordinator, IQAC, Mangaldai College. He gave a brief about the various cyber threats and the need to implement security measures while using digital platform. Students were advised to be alert all the time more particularly while using smart devices, mobile apps etc. Dr. Saurov Mahanta, STO/ Cordinator-NECB-2.0 of NIELIT Guwahati gave a brief introduction of the program. He introduced the technical aspect of the programme with the objective to promote awareness & training on Digital Inclusion to common citizens like Farmers, Women, Elderly, School and College students. He also urged the different stakeholders of the society to take the free benefits of the MeitY’s ambitious initiatives by taking active participation. TRAINING ON CHILD PROTECTION ISSUE

A training program on the issue of child protection was organized by the NSS unit of Mangaldai College on 23rd of September, 2022. It was held in the online mode where 28 students of Mangaldai College and NSS unit participated and learnt about this significant topic. The Director of NSS, North Eastern region was invited as a resource person for this training programme. He highlighted the increasing rate of crimes against children and the need to be aware about the policies which would ensure their protection. Moreover, he also elaborated on the threat posed by child labour in the society and how it might take the future of this country to a doom ahead. Hence, it is the urgent need of the hour to make the universal availability of education to all so that no children stay behind as a collateral damage of an incapable society. The students learnt about different policies enforced by the government in order to stop child labour and make education accessible to all. Moreover, students were also trained on reaching out for help if they see some child in distress and being violated of their rights. The session ended with students sharing some of their experiences of seeing children in their helpless state and how they tried to take some steps to improve their situation.

An awareness meeting on Tobacco Burden and Training on COPTA-2003 was organised by District Health Society, Darrang, District Tobacco Control Cell in collaboration with IQAC, Mangaldai College on 9th September 2022 at the Science Gallery of Mangaldai College. The meeting started at 11 am with the welcome address by Dr. Santosh Borkakati, Coordinator, IQAC, Mangaldai College. Dr. Harpal Singh Suri, Joint Director of Health Services, Darrang delivered the inaugural speech. The resource persons - Arzoo Dutta, Senior Consultant National Tobacco Control Programme (NTCP), Assam and Dr N K Beriya, District Nodal Officer, DHSNTCP, Darrang stressed the need to maintain a tobacco free environment in the campuses and surroundings of educational institutions and also to make society aware of the serious health hazards of tobacco consumption. The cadets engaged in various activities to uplift the spirits of the elderly residents, including interactive sessions, cultural performances, and distributing essential supplies. This compassionate initiative fostered a sense of companionship and also allowed the cadets to gain valuable insights into the experiences and wisdom of the elderly. The visit to the old age home by NCC cadets served as a heartwarming example of intergenerational bonding and emphasised the importance of acknowledging and honouring the elderly members of our society.

The survey includes 33 species of arthropoda, 6 species of amphibia, two species of reptilia, 29 species of aves, 2 species of wild mammals. Mr. DeepjyotiKalita, Assistant Professor, Dept. of Computer Science & IT, Mangaldai College was the resource person for the training. The Woman Studies Research Cell of Mangaldai College in collaboration with Mangaldai College Teachers Unit and IQAC, Mangaldai College organised a four-day workshop on techniques of self-defence from 13th to 17th June 2022 in the Auditorium of Mangaldai College. The workshop was inaugurated by Dr Kamala Kanta Borah, Principal, Mangaldai College. The instructor of this four-day self-defence workshop was Shihan Dhruba Jyoti Sarma, 5th Done Black Belt. He taught various basic self-defence techniques to the participants and emphasised the importance of learning self-defence in our daily lives. A total of 45 students and 15 faculties participated in the workshop making it a successful one.

The report meticulously outlined key findings, demographics, economic indicators, and identified areas for potential development. With data-driven insights into education, healthcare, and income distribution, the presentation facilitated an informed dialogue among stakeholders, including community leaders and local authorities. The interactive session allowed for constructive feedback and collaborative brainstorming on tailored solutions to address specific challenges. The Detailed Report presentation served as a crucial roadmap for future initiatives, ensuring that interventions are strategically aligned with the unique needs of the adopted village, fostering a participatory and sustainable approach to community development. 12 faculty members attended the meeting.

Cyclists from diverse backgrounds, including students, community members, and environmental enthusiasts, gathered to participate in the event. As participants peddled through the designated route adorned with banners advocating for environmental protection, the rally served as a visible and impactful statement in support of reducing carbon footprints. The event successfully combined physical activity with a powerful environmental message, fostering a sense of unity and shared responsibility for a greener and healthier future. About 40 participants took part in the rally.

The survey, undertaken by the team, comprehensively documented demographic details, income sources, educational levels, and healthcare accessibility. The findings highlighted both the strengths and challenges within the village, shedding light on areas that require targeted intervention and support. By engaging directly with the residents, the survey facilitated a better understanding of their aspirations and needs, laying the foundation for future community development initiatives. The collected data will serve as a crucial tool for formulating inclusive and sustainable programs aimed at uplifting the socio-economic stat us of Pakabangipara Village, fostering positive change and empowerment within the community. The cadets of 73 Assam Girls (I) Coy NCC, Tezpur, Mangaldai College, celebrates NCC Day every year on the fourth Sunday of November by visiting Orphanage and spending quality time with the children residing there. They distribute sweets, fruits and various items among the children. The cadets also play games and arrange cultural activities with the children. A public awareness meeting on developing scientific temperament was organised by Women Study and Research Cell (WSRC) on 24th December 2019 in association with Assam Science Society, Mangaldai Branch and Crystal Vision NGO in Danhee Higher Secondary School. Resource Person Dr. Kamaleswar Nath, a Medical Practitioner explained about the difference among common belief, disbelief and superstition prevailing in the society and ways to eradicate by developing scientific temperament among the people. Dr. Minati Sarma, President, WSRC focused on the age old gender discriminatory beliefs and practices that put obstacles for the female folk in their development and urged for developing logical and scientific thinking that promotes gender equality. Total 139 participants attended the programme.

Addressing the gathering, Ms Priyanka Baishya mentioned that the girls have to face many complex challenges in the present society along with rising atrocities and violence against women. She urged the female students to be cautious and physically fit and cultivate healthy habits by doing regular physical exercise. Workshop on Foldscope Project

A one day workshop on ‘Foldscope Project’ was organised by Department of Biotechnology (DBT), Government of India in association with Mangaldai College on 29th August 2019 at the auditorium of the college. The workshop was attended students and teachers of fourteen Aspirational districts of the region including the host district Darrang. The workshop was formally inaugurated by Dr Shailja V Gupta, the adviser to the Department of Biotechnology in presence of several dignitaries. In her inaugural speech, Dr Shailja gave a brief presentation on the Foldscope Project. The project is developed by Dr Manu Prakash, an Indian scientist currently presently serving in Stanford University, USA. Dr Shailaja also narrated how the concept is getting popular among the students and faculties in over 445 schools and colleges of the country after signing the “letter of intent” between the Stanford University and the department. The project has been launched with an aim to create a scientific temperament among the students and teachers of Northeast– especially from those belonging to the Aspirational Districts.The project also aims in helping the students and the teachers in exploring the rich biodiversity of the region through affordable, easy to use or traditional tools of technology. Over 300 student delegates, 56 selected teachers and a host of experts and mentors from across the country attended the daylong workshop. The several sessions conducted in the workshop included foldscope assembly, sample preparation, visualization and documentation training, refinement, picture/video recording, and presentation of samples by participants.

Waste and Organic Waste Management in Mangaldai Town by NCC

The Mangaldai College NCC Coy (under 73 Assam Girls (I) Coy NCC, Tezpur) has played a pivotal role in spearheading effective Waste and Organic Waste Management initiatives in Upahupara Area of Mangaldai Town. Through a Swachh Bharat Summer Internship program, NCC cadets have actively engaged with the community in creating awareness about waste segregation, conducting clean-up drives, and implementing composting initiatives. The program emphasized the importance of reducing environmental impact and fostering a clean and healthy living environment. This comprehensive approach, coupled with the dedication of NCC cadets, has contributed to a cleaner and healthier environment in Mangaldai Town and also fostered a sense of community responsibility towards waste reduction and proper disposal. ANO (Dr.) Leena Saikia guided the cadets during the program. Total 20 cadets took part in the internship programme.

A three-day Entrepreneurship Awareness Camp was conducted for the degree students by IQAC, Mangaldai College in collaboration with EntrepreneurshipDevelopment Institute of India, North Eastern Regional Office, Guwahati from 11th March to 13th March 2019.The objective of the programme is to motivate youth from different sections of society including SC/ST/women, differently-abled, ex-servicemen and BPL persons to consider self-employment or entrepreneurship as a career option. The ultimate objective is to promote new enterprises, ensure capacity building of existing MSMEs and float an entrepreneurial culture in the country. Around 51 students participated in the camp.

An outreach programme was organised by the Institutional Level Biotech Hub, Mangaldai College in collaboration with the DBT Star College Scheme and IQAC, Mangaldai College on 7th September, 2018 at Udalguri H.S. School. Mr. Lakhya Jyoti Gogoi, Assistant Professor, Dept. of B.Voc, Mangaldai College delivered a lecture on “Fundamentals and Importance of Biotechnology”. The students and teachers interacted with the resource person. A total number of 33 students and teachers participated in the programme. The Principal of the School offered the vote of thanks.

Campaign against Alcohol, Tobacco & Drugs

On the occasion of International Day against Drug Abuse & Illicit Trafficking, a street-play was enacted by NCC Coy, Mangaldai College on 26th June 2018 at Mangaldai Town. The powerful street performance was staged in honor of the International Day against Drug usage and Illegal Trafficking to increase public awareness of the harmful effects of drug usage and the serious repercussions of illicit trafficking. The performance took place on a busy street, capturing the interest of onlookers with its moving narrative and important lessons. The street drama also highlighted the necessity for coordinated efforts to address this worldwide threat by shedding awareness on how drug trafficking feeds the cycle of substance abuse. 15 cadets took part in the street-play.

Celebration of International Forest day at College Campus

Celebration of International Day of Forest, 2025 International Day of Forests 2025 is being observed today, March 21, to promote awareness about the vital role of forests and encourage sustainable conservation efforts. Established by the United Nations General Assembly in 2012, this global event emphasizes the significance of forests in maintaining ecological balance. The theme for this year, "Forests and Food," highlights the crucial connection between forests, food security, and livelihoods. To mark the occasion, the Department of Geography at Mangaldai College organized a "Campus Exploration Activity." Students from the 6th Semester (Major) actively participated, exploring the diverse forest resources within the college premises. This hands-on initiative allowed students to gain insights into the rich biodiversity present on campus. Notably, Mangaldai College boasts an impressive green cover, with more than 50% of its campus enveloped in lush vegetation. This event not only fostered environmental awareness but also reinforced the importance of preserving and nurturing green spaces for future generations.
