Introduction :
The Department of Chemistry, Mangaldai College, Assam, was established in 1966 starting Pre-University (PU) course from 1967-68 session. It was brought under Deficit-Grant-in-Aid w.e.f. December, 1972 (vide Govt. letter no. G(A)AC/15/69/250, dt. 24-12-1975). B.Sc. Chemistry(General) course was started from 1972 and subsequently B.Sc. Chemistry(Major) course was introduced from 1978 under the affiliating Gauhati University. The faculty members are devoted in teaching. They are also engaged in research activities without disturbing regular teaching. The teachers, non-teaching staff and the students regularly participate in other activities like plantation, sacchwata abhiyan and sports. The department also organizes some curriculum enrichment programme to assist the learners in addition to regular classes. The alumni of the department are engaged in various posts like University and College teachers, School Teachers, ONGC officials, Scientists, Bank Officials, Laboratory technicians etc.
The Curriculum :
The Department follows the curriculum and syllabus provided by the affiliating Gauhati University in offering B.Sc. (Honours and Regular Course) on semester basis.

Four Year Under Graduate Programme(FYUGP) will be started from 2023-24 session as per GU guidelines
